Why 31337 InfoSec?

Derek Krein

More than having fun with character sets, taunting others, or proclaiming greatness, ‘eleet’ is a mindset.  My favorite definition of 31337 is from urban dictionary:  to be elite.  One who has skills.

Developing skills requires deliberate research, testing, failing forward, and diligently applying what you learn.  This is especially important in cyber security.  Theory is not enough; practical application of theory is absolutely required.

Discovering new ways to do things, challenging the status quo.  Applying critical thinking characteristics to accomplish objectives.  Staying curious and always moving forward.  A thinking differently mentality is a must in InfoSec.

We’re going apply a thinking differently mindset to all aspects of InfoSec!  Should be interesting.
